Polish waffles (gofry)

Classic Polish gofry for a waffle iron: fluffy batter with milk, butter, and eggs. Plain universal flour works, but mąka krupczatka is recommended — e.g. Basia krupczatka (do ciast kruchych, red heart bag) gives lighter, crispier waffles. Serve with berries, whipped cream, or Nutella.

Polish waffles (gofry)

Ingredients

  • 300 g krupczatka flour (universal flour also works)
  • 1/2 litre milk (500 ml)
  • 75 g sugar
  • pinch of salt
  • 100 g butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp baking powder

Directions

  1. Prep: Melt the butter and let it cool slightly.

  2. Batter: In a large bowl, whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add eggs, milk, and melted butter. Whisk until smooth with no lumps — the batter should be pourable, like thick cream.

  3. Waffle iron: Preheat the waffle iron. Pour in enough batter to cover the plates (do not overfill). Close and bake until golden and crisp — usually 3–5 minutes, depending on your machine.

  4. Serve: Stack the gofry while warm. Top with fresh berries, whipped cream, Nutella, or powdered sugar — whatever you like.
